Playabl, Inc. is seeking an Engineer to program gameplay, environment and UI features, for games starring expressive, personality-rich 3D characters, for a variety of platforms, including mixed-reality.

We are a startup game development studio co-located in Portland, Oregon and the SF Bay Area. Playabl’s mission is to create AI-driven interactive characters with dynamic, real-time aliveness, that converse naturally with players in spoken English, using speech recognition.  

What You’ll Do:

  • Program and debug gameplay, environment, and UI features, in Unity

  • Test and refine systems throughout the development cycle of the project

  • Work closely with designers, artists and animators in the development of features

  • Implement game analytics system

  • Write clear, maintainable, portable code

What We Seek:

  • At least 3 years experience and 2 shipped titles as an Engineer in the software or video game industry

  • Exceptional C++/C#/Java design and programming skills

  • Proven outstanding debugging and technical problem-solving skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or similar discipline, or equivalent experience through professional game development, indie projects, or mods

  • Experience with the Unity engine

  • Assertive and outstanding team player

  • Comfortable prototyping and working with an iterative development process that changes rapidly

  • Ability to work productively remotely as needed

  • Proficiency with Pivotal, Jira or similar production tracking software

  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
